Debbie & Craig's Beautiful Wedding Album

We are excited to share Debbie & Craig's wedding album design with you. We worked with Debbie and designed her album in about 8-weeks. She did a great job of selecting images that really told the story of her wedding day. Naturally we work with our couples to guide them in the whole process. It was fun working with Debbie and presenting her final review slideshow projected on our big screen at the studio. It's a great way to review and check images as well as design layouts. Click here to view the entire album. Can we design one for you? We are happy to work with couples even if we didn't photograph your weddings. Bring us your digital images with use approval and we can design a great digital album for you too! -Rick Bella for bella photography

Hire a "Pro" for your very special occassions
We would like to remind you to remember is that there is much more to making great images than simply snapping the shutter on the camera. Using a professional with years of experience will certainly yield great results. How can anyone else compete with a pro-shooter who may capture hundreds or thousands of images per event. Not to mention the equipment, computer programs and everything else that goes into making a great finished product. There really IS a difference. Stop by to let us show you dozens of images on display at our studio. We are happy to explain all of the many services that we provide. -Rick Bella for bella photography

A great time with Alexis!
We had a great time getting to know Alexis during her photo shoot. She was such a delight to work with and some of our best images came after the formal Christmas dress photos when she was back in her blue jeans and Hanna Montana T-Shirt! It was then that we had time to capture Alexis with her true personality showing through. We have already asked her to model for us this spring and we look forward to a long-lasting relationship with Alexis. Take a look at her video and enjoy! Call us to schedule your photoshoot at 888-736-5217 or drop us an email at info@bellaphotographs.com -Rick Bella for bella photography
Happy New Year!
Well we made it through 2009. What a year! I think everyone is happy it is over and we are looking forward to some economy recovery this year. The wedding business has been down industry-wide last year and speculation is for some bounce-back this year. We certainly hope so. Now that we are through the holidays, we'll get back on track with regular blog postings. We have much to report and share about some incredible photo shoots that we did in December. Such great people and great fun. Watch soon for some studio updates and bridal show announcements. In the meantime, Happy New Year and enjoy the long weekend! -Rick Bella for bella photography

Photos with Santa - 30-minute sessions yielded great results
Children enjoyed a private session with the bella Santa at bella photography, Valparaiso, Indiana. Santa dropped down the chimmney and sat with children to hear what was on their lists and even a request from a 6-year old to have a cell phone!
Other requests like an Easy Bake Oven came from parents but discussions quickly changed to X-Boxes and Wii video games. Santa even had his beard checked a couple of times and yes, it was real! "Give it a tug" Santa said and one little boy did! Santa must have checked out since the boy then proceeded with his carefully prepared and decorated list of toys he wanted. And yes, he had been good and his mother verified that. Naturally Santa already knew that he was a good little boy since he was on the "NICE" list! His mother later said that he was nervous all day about coming to see Santa. It is stories like this that really made having Santa a great event.

Some children were a little scared at first, but that quickly faded when they saw that Santa was indeed a happy, jolly elf and not threatening at all. Magdalyna (age 6) didn't waste any time and walked right up to Santa and reached up to be immediately placed on Santa's lap! She went right into her pitch about her toy needs and why she needed them! Cute doesn't even come close to describing the scene. She even sealed the deal with a kiss on Santa's rosy cheek.
Samantha, below (11 months old) was a little more skeptical of the big guy in red, but after some time she too felt better about her situation and we were able to capture some great memory keepsakes.

Children really enjoyed not being rushed and really had an opportunity to visit with Santa. This was not a "sit and snap" photo session. Kids reserved 30-minute time slots and no photos were taken during the first few minutes at all. This allowed the children to relax and get used to Santa. Afterall, this is a big deal and the relationship building allowed for some great photos that followed. This is a great alternative to other Santa photo offers.

Saturday provided more kids with lists and wishes for new toys and games. Santa was busy checking his list and making sure with mom and dad that the new bike was going to be okay to deliver! Our cookies and hot cocoa didn't go over too well since the visitors wanted to spend the time with Santa. Note for next year: buy less cookies!!

Santa really enjoyed his time with the 'bella kids' and we have already asked Santa to come back next year. He's so busy, we thought that would be a good idea to get on his calendar now! He will be back for sure. -Rick Bella - for bella photography

Congratulations Alison and Chris
Who would have thought that our two November weddings this year would turn out to be two of the nicest days to photograph a wedding? It's true. The first two Saturday's in November both had absolutely beautiful weather. Our couples were pleased and Alison and Chris' wedding even allowed for some outdoor photography and without coats!
Alison and Chris' wedding day could not have been better. From the preparations in the morning to the last dance, the day was perfect. Take a look at the video slideshow that we have prepared of just some of their wedding day memories.
We are booking weddings for next year already... so feel free to contact us for your personal consultation and to reserve your 2010 date! The wedding industry has been quiet for the past 18 months and forecasts are for a busy 2010 year given economic reports indicating a little brighter outlook. Enjoy the show!!

A Senior Photo Session with Rachel
We spent a couple hours with Rachel last week to capture many memories of her senior year. It is amazing how many different photographs we can capture in just two hours. We traveled to 5 different locations while Rachel changed clothes in the family minivan inbetween locations.
This allowed for a nice variety of location settings as well as different sets of clothes for Rachel's photos. Our friends at Blackbird Cafe allowed us to sneak a couple photos inside the trendy downtown coffee shop located in Valparaiso, Indiana. We also spend some time in the popular Ogden Gardens, a local park offering beautiful garden areas.
Then we had some fun in one of the brick alleys in town as well as some photos near some empty and very old area warehouses for some really cool grungy looking shots.
Rachel was a trooper as we moved her quickly around different backdrop settings. She knew that our approach would yield some really different looking senior photos. Take a look to see what you think! We have posted a slideshow of some of our favorites for your enjoyment. Click here: Rachel2010
We shoot senior photos year-round. Call us to schedule your session at any time toll free at 888-736-5217 or email us at info@bellaphotographs.com We can also accomodate groups of friends, sports teams, or any other group that would like some photos taken together. -Rick Bella, for bella photography

Congratulations Bridget and Brian
We had another great wedding last week with Bridget and Brian. A very laid back day with everything going just about perfect. The weather could have been a little warmer, but we are never happy in that department anyway. The Chicago photos were a little rushed since it was pretty cold there with the Chicago breeze! We made the best of it and really captured some great memories for this happy couple.
The Ceremony was at St. Joseph Church in Dyer, Indiana and provided a nice backdrop for ceremony photos. We then headed to Chicago after some formal church photos to capture some fun and different photos using the beautiful Chicago skyline as the backdrop. Buckingham fountain was still turned on and we used it too for some great settings.
The couples reception was at Wicker Park Social Center and the decor was stunning provided by Welcome Home wedding planners located in Schererville. Stunning chair covers and center pieces towered throughout the large room and created a very elegant look and feel to the reception. The hall, already beautiful in its own right was lite properly for the various events throughout the night. Place settings were detailed and the food was great.

A well stocked bar provided spirits throughout the night and Bridget and Brian keep their guests well entertained with two live bands. One during the cocktail hour offering Beatles song selections. Then later we were wowed with another wonderful band playing all of the dance favorites. What a party... and I found myself hovering near and on the dance floor enjoying all of the dancing going on. Yes, I shot a few photos too of dancers and band members!
The event was a huge success and Bridget was smiling the entire day! A great time and a great couple. We wish you all the best as your new journey begins. You may view a slideshow of the day by clicking here: BridgetBrianWedding -Rick Bella for seeds of thought - bella photography

Congratulations Debbie & Craig
It was one of the most perfect days for a wedding all year long. Saturday, September 19, 2009 started with clear skies and temperatures in the 70's. Debbie and Craig's ceremony was held at the beautiful St. Paul Church in Valparaiso, Indiana. Like ALL Bella brides, Debbie was beautiful wearing a stunning gown.
Craig and the guys relaxed at his home, also in Valparaiso. Guys have it easy, shower, shave, throw on the tux! The ladies were busy from dawn with hair and makeup appointments in Crown Point, then getting dressed in Porter, Indiana.
The day started perfectly and ended the same way with a wonderful reception held at the Centennial Park Reception Hall in Munster, Indiana. We also took photos there on the grounds of this fairly new park. Nice job Munster on this one! The place offers rose gardens, water, bridges, and a band shell. The hall offers a country club feeling with huge windows facing the water.

Debbie and Craig had a large wedding party (18 total) and in addition had three children involved as ring bearers and a flower girl. The cousins of the bride did a great job. We wish Debbie and Craig all the best as they start their new adventure. While they are honeymooning, we'll be processing the hundreds of photos captured on their wedding day! Take a look, another reason why we LOVE weddings. It is our honor to capture these memories that will last a lifetime and beyond. Don't forget Debbie, we do baby photos too!

Downtown Chicago offers Great Photo Backdrop
The city of Chicago offers such beauty that we would be remiss not to take advantage of the city scape, lake, buildings, parks and other surroundings that the city offers. Engagement photos allow Jodi and I to get to know our wedding couple. It allows them to see how we work and is really similar to a training session for their wedding day!
We had a wonder two-hour session with Alison and Chris on Sunday. We started at the Shedd Aqirium and moved through the pier, to Buckingham fountain, then through Grant Park and onto Starbuck's on Michigan Avenue.
The various locations allowed us to capture many great photos that reflect the beauty not only of this couple, but of their surroundings and roots as well. We love heading to the city, or a beach or really where ever our couples would like to go. After all, the photos are about them.
Alison and Chris love the city, so why not show off a little of where they live right in their engagement photos? Enjoy these photos as well as a slide show by clicking on this link: http://weddingsbybella.com/proofs/alisonchrisengagement

County Line Orchard Sweet for Mallary and Randy
Jodi and I were excited to shoot at the County Line Orchard located in Hobart, Indiana. The apple orchard is well known for its great apple offerings as well as country store that, in season, provides some of the best home cooked food around. The fruit pies are to die for! Believe me, I know.
Mallary and Randy wanted a rustic setting and the Orchard provided just that. A relaxed atmosphere and unique setting provided a little different wedding ceremony and reception. The beautiful upstairs area with tall ceiling created a wonderful backdrop for ceremony photos. The reception area was the entire lower level. The food was great and personal service to details provided by Roxanne Dedrick (roxanne@countylineorchard.com).
The orchard is building a 40,000 sq ft new building and the space can house three weddings receptions at one time... or one really large one! We were amazed at the size and structure being built. It's worth a drive-by for sure.
We have a great time with Mallary, Randy and their wedding party. Everyone had fun and outdoor photos were great with the orchard backdrop. Posted here are just a few photos... but you can view a slide show by clicking on this link: MallaryRandyWedding

Friendship Gardens/Blue Chip Casino Provided Great Backdrops

Kari and Craig's wedding day couldn't be better. Some morning rain lowered humity levels and clouds parted to expose the perfect setting for a beautiful wedding. Their choice of the International Friendship Gardens (Michigan City, Indiana off of U.S. Route 12) was a perfect backdrop. Refreshments were provided, white chairs, and a tent offered additional settings for wonderful photos.

Blue Chip Casino River Boat (also in Michigan City) was our first reception there and the brand new facility provided another stunning setting for reception fun. The wedding party was great to work with and allowed Jodi and I to capture many great memories for Kari and Craig. The day was filled with many fun events including a Cracker Jack box holding Kari's ring to a plate of White Castle Cheeseburgers served to the groom during dinner.

We have prepared a slideshow of some of the many images captured throughout the day and you may view them by clicking this link: KariCraigWedding

Rain did not dampen Cassie & Jon's wedding day!
Cassie and Jon’s wedding day was beautiful; not the weather, but certainly everything else! The bride planned an outdoor wedding at the wonderful Aberdeen Manor located in Valparaiso, Indiana. Known for their outdoor gazebo and beautiful settings, the rain forced the backup plan into effect. The newly built chapel would have to do as the clouds continued to darken and light rain fell from about 11 a.m. throughout the entire day.
Our white umbrella (borrowed from our good friends at Just B Kreative) came in very handy during the day and really made for some cute photos. The chapel served well as the new plan and the ceremony was wonderful.
A backup plan is always a good idea when planning an outdoor wedding. You do not just call off the day if it happens to rain! Cassie was excited about taking outdoor photos and we offered to take those photos when they returned from their honeymoon. Jon will rent the tuxedo again and Cassie will already have her dress, so no problem.
One thing for sure in this business is that we need to be flexible and offer solutions when a client does not receive what they were planning. The additional photos will mix well with wedding day capture allowing for a seamless wedding album.
Aberdeen Manor’s beautiful interior offered some great alternative locations in the foyer as well as the large hall allowing for wedding party and family formal portraits. The reception offered great food, music, dancing, and everyone made the best of the hot and humid day. Congratulations Cassie and Jon!
We have included a slideshow link of selected photos from their wedding day. Please click the link to view the slideshow: CassieJonWedding

Capturing Children Moments in Time is Rewarding
Jodi and I have loads of fun while photographing children. It is so delightful to watch them grow up and really change over the months. Our good friends Noah and Teri Zondor had their first child months ago and we had the pleasure of photographing their little girl named Zoe (I know, pretty cool name).
Zoe was so fun to photograph and was just a real happy baby. She even put up with different clothing changes and didn't mind a bit. We have posted a few favorites here for your review. These "moments in time" will be important later in life. It is important to take an hour or two to capture these moments. Yes, everyone is busy, but we shoot quickly and make the whole experience painless and with our easy and flexible scheduling it is easy to fit the shoot into everyone's busy schedule.

We can even come to you! We often accommodate clients by coming to their homes for baby photos. Talk about easy! Just give us a call toll free at 888-736-5217 or email us at info@bellaphotographs.com for more information. Congrats to Teri and Noah and we look forward to the next round of photos! Zoe needs a sibling though... what do you think? :)

We Love Engagement Sessions
We recently had back to back engagement shoots with Debbie and Craig and also with Kari and Craig! We love shooting these sessions because they allow us to get to know our couples a little better. Jodi even provides them with a fun questionaire that also gives us some background information about the couple.
One of our goals it to make the sessions personal and to provide photography that means something to the couple. So we travel to two or three different locations and also allow different clothing changes. You will see in these photos the variety of locations we went to really allow the photos to reflect the couple... not what is easy for the photographer to capture.
We always have fun photographing these sessions and provide our couples with a slideshow of selected photos from the session. You too can take a look at the photos by clicking on the links below. Guest books are also available containing photos of the day and are a big hit at wedding receptions.
Please contact Bella Photography for more details at 888-736-5217 or email Rick or Jodi at info@bellaphotographs.com
We can do these sessions for anyone, not just for our brides and grooms. They are a lot of fun, contact us for details. Click on the links below to view the full slideshow. Rick BellaDebbie and Craig Engagement Session

Moving Week for Bella Studio
This is it; moving week for our studio location. We are moving from 151 Lincolnway to the White House! No not where Obama lives, but the old White House in Valparaiso at 303 E. Jefferson Street. We will operate in the lower level of this two-story old house. Sister's Bridal shop is upstairs and Just Be Kreative will keep a small section to sell flowers and other wedding/prom related items. It's a perfect fit for our photography business and will offer additional space and plenty of parking! Something that was lacking at our downtown location.

Our goal is to move this week and start operations at the new location on Monday, June 1. Watch our blog for announcements of an open house planned for sometime in August. Thank you to all of our clients over the years who have allowed us to grow and offer more services. We look forward to serving you in our new location. bella photography - Rick & Jodi Bella

Eva & Wade Wedding, a Beautiful Day!
We were so excited to photograph Eva and Wade's wedding on Saturday, May 9Th. The Irish (Groom) and Italian (Bride) made for a perfect mix of family, friends and guests. Both ethnic groups are known for their love of fellow humans and the love in these families was very obvious.
Eva and her sisters were close and both stood up in the wedding party. Wade's only sibling (a sister) also was in the wedding party. A brother in law and another soon to be brother in law were also groomsmen and others were close friends. This group was great fun and Jodi and I had a blast working with them all day.
The ceremony took place at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lansing, IL. Then we were off to the picturesque Odyssey Country Club in Tinley Park, IL. The Odyssey is a beautiful place for any reception. Eva and Wade had many friends and the wedding was attended by 300 or so guests.
We were able to capture some great photos and have shared some here in a slide show of their day. Congratulations Eva and Wade and thanks for a fun filled day.

Engagement session in Chicago was fun with Eva and Wade!
The day was sunny last saturday, just before the depressing rain, cold and snow that hit our area. Perhaps the last rememberance of a dreadful winter. So we met up with Eva and Wade, our May bride and groom to capture some photos in Chicago. Wade, a Cubs fan wanted some photos at the park. We loved the backdrop and captured many photos with a "Cubs" theme.
Big cities really offer great scenes for photography and we love shooting there. We then went on to a park area near the lake to enjoy the waterfront. Taking engagement photos allow us to really get to know our bride's and groom's and it makes a huge difference on the wedding day. We are allowed to laugh with them and have some fun. They in turn, get to see how we operate and take photos and that knowledge will put them at ease on their special day. After all, there is plenty of other things to worry about... photography shouldn't be one of them!
Jodi and I are both easy going and put our couples at ease quickly. Then, on the wedding day, we are like old friends getting together. It really takes off the edge and why our engagement sessions are so popular.
The couples select 20 to 25 photos from the day to prepare their custom designed guest book. These books have become very popular and replace the plain white guest book. Guests can sign in and leave thoughtful messages on blank or lined pages intermixed with the photos from the engagement session. They are a big "hit" at the reception and become a keepsake to display instead of a white book in a box under the bed!So we are excited to share some of Eva and Wade's photos here. And we are looking forward to the heart of baseball season... not that we are fans, but that means WARMER DAYS!

Wedding Albums - Winter work for studios!
There are not many weddings in the winter months. Some, but not like the busy May through October months. So what do we do? We work on getting caught up and design albums from all of the summer weddings. Below are Andrea and Jim's wedding album pages.
Picture them as an open book with a left page and a right page. Wedding albums are very different today and we offer the very popular flush mount albums that lay flat as well as remain almost seamless when opened. These magazine style albums offer great flexibility in design and allow each "spread" to tell a story of your wedding day. Click on each opening page to view a slide show of the rest of the album.
